Sirte- Libya (PANA) – The 9th Summit of the Community of Sahel--Saharan States (CEN-SAD) ended here Sunday, with a call to member countries to work relentlessly towards effective solidarity, and to create conditions for sustainable peace.
In a statement issued after the meeting and availed to PANA Monday, the CEN-SAD leaders hailed the positive political developments in the grouping, and called for more efforts to build and consolidate peace and security in the member states.
The statement also expressed great consideration for Libyan leader Col.
Moammar Kadhafi, especially for his efforts in conflict resolution.
Kadhafi, who is the incumbent CEN-SAD chairman, is a leading peace mediator in this area and elsewhere in Africa, the statement said.
It stressed the need to harmonise the positions of the member states on various issues concerning the African continent, and to pool their efforts within the African Union (AU), especially in regard to the establishment of an AU government, to be discussed at the Accra AU Summit in July.
