Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (PANA) – The executive board of the Community of Sahelo-Saharan States (CEN-SAD), made up of Foreign ministers of the 28-member States, will meet in Morocco in June to discuss, among other issues, the re-organization of the regional body.
The Moroccan Foreign Minister, Saâd Eddine El Othmani, told the Moroccan News Agency (MAP) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, that the meeting was aimed at taking measures to make CEN-SAD a more effective organization.
"CEN-SAD is an organization that needed reorganization and Morocco, while proposing to host the extraordinary meeting of the executive council of Foreign Affairs ministers, has suggested being part of the reorganization committee," said El Othmani.
He said that CEN-SAD headquarters and the Sahelo-Saharan bank for investment and trade would remain in Tripoli, the Libyan capital..
CEN-SAD, formed in February 1998 in Tripoli, is targetting the establishment of an economic Union based on a development plan that agrees with national plans of member nations.
It also aims at changing all policies restricting the free movement of people, capitals and goods within the member countries.
