CECAFA-Kagame Cup: Gor Mahia, Simba ease into semis

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (PANA) - Kenyan giants Gor Mahia, and Simba of Tanzania are in the last four of the CECAFA-Kagame Cup competition.

Gor Mahia showed master class on Sunday evening, coming from behind to beat Uganda champions Vipers SC 2-1 at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Captain Thadeo Lwanda puts Vipers upfront after just 14 minutes of play with a long shot from 35-metres that left Gor Mahia goalkeeper, Shaban Olouch, with nothing to do.

The Kenyans resumed the second half with high intensity that bore fruits early and Rwanda- import, Jacques Tuyisenge, netted the equalizer on the 47th minute.

Burundi-import, Mustapha Francis sent Gor Mahia to the semis with the winner on 74 minutes from a rebound after Tuyisenge’s shot was spilled by Olouch.

In the other quarter final match, Simba sealed their place in the semis, thanks to a lone goal victory over AS Ports of Djibouti. The only goal came on 66 minutes, courtesy of Mohammed Rashid.

The quarter final of regional tournament continues on Monday with holders, Azam, hosting Rayon Sports of Rwanda while debutants Singida United battles JKU of Zanzibar.
