CAF Bureau in Madagascar inaugurated

Mahajanga,  Madagascar (PANA) - The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has opened its bureau in Madagascar, located in  Mahajanga, a city in the northwest coast of the country.

The CAF media outlet reported that the bureau was opened on Friday, 30 March, 2018, with FIFA General Secretary, Fatma Samoura, CAF Executive Committee members and several African football federation heads in attendance.

The opening of the bureau is in accordance with the CAF Statutes, which stipulate the establishment of an office for the CAF President in his hometown if he hails outside the city where the CAF headquarters is located.

It said that the measure is to ensure the smooth coordination between the Secretariat in Cairo, Egypt, and the office of the CAF President.

The CAF President, Ahmad Ahmad, was joined by Malagasy Senate President, Rivo Rakotovao, leader of the National Assembly, Jean-Max Rakotomamonjy, Defence Minister, Beni Xavier Rasolofonirina, Police Minister Mamy Andrianisa, and many other top government officials for the inauguration.

He thanked the presidents of the federations for voting for him to take charge of African football, assuring them that he will do his best.

“You all played various roles in making this vision happen. Now in front of my family, my close friends and the people of Madagascar let me use this opportunity to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the trust that you have placed in me.

“You gave me the big honour to represent you and now you have honoured me again by coming to my hometown to witness the opening of this office. It is not easy to travel here but you came to demonstrate your support for me. This shows how highly you hold me. I will assure you once again that I will work in the best interests of African football,” Ahmad said.

On his part, Madam Samoura lauded the CAF President on the progress made by African football under his watch since assuming office last March.

“I’m sure this office will enhance a lot of development as far as African football is concerned. I congratulate Ahmad on his election as first Malagasy president of CAF and also for the way he has revolutionised African football within a short time,” said the FIFA General Secretary who later joined the CAF President to cut the sod for the opening of the bureau.

The CAF bureau is housed on the third floor of an office building in Mahajanga. It boasts an office for the CAF President, a conference room among others, and will have a staff of five.
