Burundi's first couple attends international women's day ceremony

Bujumbura, Burundi (PANA) - Burundi’s first couple, Pierre and Denis Nkurunziza, on Thursday attended a parade of women to commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day in Kayanza, in the north of the country.

The day was celebrated under the theme: "Rural and city actors, together let’s change women’s life."

Burundi’s state-owned radio said that the parade was mounted by women from different social and professional groups.

On the eve of the day, the minister of Gender and Solidarity, Martin Nivyabandi said that day was being celebrated at a time when the government was "very engaged" in the promotion of Burundian women.

This is seen in the establishment of infrastructure of common interest where women and children are the main beneficiaries, Nivyabandi said.
