Burkinabe civil society urges people-oriented OIF

Ouagadougou- Burkina Faso (PANA) -- Some 26 Burkinabe civil society organisations called Friday for orientation of Francophonie towards the promotion of democratic principles and practices and the prevention and resolution of conflicts among member states.
At a symposium organised on the sidelines of the Francophonie summit underway here, the moderator Prof.
Etienne Traore maintained that in the eyes of ordinary citizens, the Francophone is but a bureaucratic superstructure at the service of political leaders.
He said it was not seen to address the daily struggle of the people against poverty and misery, the inequities of globalisation, AIDS and desertification.
Traore said the symposium seeks to show the way forward and to propose changes needed to get the OIF closer to people within the French speaking community.
