Burkina Faso investigates allegations of clandestine airstrip in the north

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) - The Burkinabe government announced on Wednesday that an investigation has been opened following reports of the existence of a clandestine airstrip in the north of the country for armed terrorist groups.

According to the government spokesman, Lionel Bilgo, the National Theatre Operations Command (COTN) has launched the investigation.

Since last weekend, information on the clandestine airstrip has been making the rounds on social networks in Burkina Faso.

"As soon as we received the information, I raised the issue with the COTN, which is still investigating and trying to understand," said Mr Bilgo.

"I had received the data from a confidential source well before the publication of this information. I had also shared it with the Ministry of Defence and Security and the COTN," he added.
