Brussels: OIF condemns attack on Antananarivo Stadium

Brussels, Belgium (PANA) – The Secretary General of the International Francophonie Organization (OIF), Mrs Michaelle Jean, has "strongly" condemned the terrorists attack on the municipal stadium of Mahamasina, in the Malagasy capital, Antananarivo, according to a communiqué issued here and received Wednesday by PANA.

"That horrible and criminal attack" is shocking and created an atmosphere of insecurity for a people celebrating, with pride and joy, the 56th anniversary of their independence, says Mrs Michaelle Jean, who offered her condolences to the families and relatives of the victims.

She also offered the solidarity of the francophone community to the Malagasy people and authorities preparing to host the 16th Francophonie summit in November.

Two people were killed and more than 80 wounded in a grenade attack in Madagascar's capital during the country's national day celebrations.

The blast struck the Mahamasina municipal stadium in Antananarivo just as a free concert was taking place to mark the nation's 56th anniversary of independence from France.
