British Airways sells shares in Air Mauritius

Port-Louis- Mauritius (PANA) -- Air Mauritius¹ shareholders that include the gove rnment, Tuesday bought the shares owned by the British Airways for the past 35 years in the Mauritian national carrier.
In a press statement by Air Mauritius, made available to PANA here, Robbie Baird , British Airways¹ Area General Manager Asia Pacific, said BA¹s investment in Ai r Mauritius no longer formed a core part of its business strategy.
"We invested in Air Mauritius when it was a start-up airline.
It is now a succes sful carrier, operating to the highest standards and no longer requires our invo l vement and support," Baird said.
The news release was silent on the percentage of shares belonging to the British Airways and the amount paid for them.
Created in 1967, Air Mauritius operates a fleet of five A340-300, two A340-300E, two A319-100, one A330-200 and two ATR72-500, flying to 27 destinations in Euro p e, Asia, Australia, Africa and the Indian Ocean.
