Breas feeing popular among Cape Verde mothers

Praia- Cape Verde (PANA) -- About 80 per cent of women in Cape Verde breast-feed their babies until right through the 12th month, although not exclusively, health sources noted in a campaign sensitising mothers on the advantages of breast-feeding.
The campaign fits into the World Week for breast-feeding running 1-7 August, whose activities this year revolve around the theme "Breast-feeding in the Information Era".
National Nutrition Programme chief, Tersa Morais, said two Cape Verde hospitals in the towns of Santa Caterina and St.
Vicente have already been awarded the title "Children Friendly Hospitals," attributed by the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF).
Several activities have been carried out all along the week, with the purpose of awakening mothers to the benefits associated with breast-feeding, health and income wise.
Better control of diseases such as diarrhoea among breast- fed children was noted.
