Bouteflika may attend Lebanon Francophonie summit

Algiers- Algeria (PANA) -- For the first time in the history of Algeria, the country could be represented at the next Francophonie summit to be held from 18 to 20 October in Beirut, Lebanon.
President Abelaziz Bouteflika has been officially invited by his Lebanese counterpart Emile Lahoud to take part in the meeting.
Until now, Algeria's participation at Francophonie summits was limited to ministerial observer status.
Since independence in 1962, Algeria - one of the most populous Francophone countries - has refused to take part in Francophonie meetings, a legacy from its bitter war of liberation against France.
