Gaborone, Botswana (PANA) - Botswana’s second Sunday print publication, The Patriot, has launched its online edition (www.thepatriot.co.bw).
The development comes three days after the first print edition of the broadsheet paper hit the shelves on Sunday, a month after the publication started recruiting employees.
The Patriot on Sunday joined thousand of publications across the globe, now utilising the internet age to reach its market.
“The launch of The Patriot on Sunday is a contribution to the strengthening of Botswana’s democracy and recognition of the prevailing freedom of speech,” said Bapasi Mphusu, the publication’s editor-in-chief.
“We came in to enjoy the free space provided by Botswana’s democratic ideals as outlined in the national constitution,” he added.
Media reports have said the paper is owned by Botswana Democratic Party secretary general, Mpho Balopi, parliamentarian Guma Moyo, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) outlets magnate Ramachandran Ottapath, running chain stores under the name Choppies, and Thapelo Olopeng, a close friend of President Ian Khama.
