Botswana: Private helicopter crashes in northern Botswana

Gaborone, Botswana (PANA) - The Botswana Police Service (BPS) has confirmed that a private helicopter crashed in Tutume village, some 100 kilometres away from the second capital, Francistown.

Superintendent Jerry Halahala of the BPS on Tuesday said a helicopter with three passengers on board crashed on Monday evening next to a shopping mall.

Halahala said the private R44 RAVEN II, belonging to a local aircraft designer, Mogomotsi Gaebepe, crashed while attempting to take off.

“Three of the passengers were treated for minor injuries while the pilot remains hospitalised with injuries that are not life threatening. We could not immediately confirm the cause of the crash,” said Superintendent Halahala.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the chopper hit an electric cable while attempting to take off.
