Botswana: Missing police chopper found

Gaborone, Botswana (PANA) - Botswana Police have confirmed that their missing helicopter has been found.

The chopper that went missing on Sunday was found in Xaraga village, 30 kilometres from Botswana’s resort town of Maun.

Police commissioner Keabetswe Makgophe said none of the three officers on board survived.

“It is with regret that I inform you that the helicopter has finally been found by the search and rescue team. There are no survivors,” Makgophe said Wednesday.

He named the deceased officers are Superintendent Keokeditswe Sobatha, Assistant Superitendent Sherperd Ntobedzi and Inspector Ricardo Modiri Mabotho, saying that the families of the three officers have been informed.

He dismissed speculations of any foul play.

The crashed helicopter is one of the two stationed in the country’s capital, Gaborone. The other chopper is in the second capital, Francistown.
