Benin's Kerekou off to TICAD III

Cotonou- Benin (PANA) -- Benin President Mathieu Kerekou left here Saturday for Japan to participate in the 3rd Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD III), slated for 29 September to 1 October.
President Kerekou will participate in the conference as Benin's head of government and coordinating president of the least developed countries, according to Isidore Monsi of Benin's Foreign Ministry.
Kerekou is slated to address the forum on the theme: "Poverty Reduction through Economic Growth," Monsi said.
The Beninese head of state is expected to meet Japanese officials and parliamentarians, on the sidelines of the conference, in a bid to enhance bilateral ties between the two countries, the foreign ministry official said.
