Benin mobilises finances for HIV/AIDS fight

Cotonou- Benin (PANA) -- Benin plans to allocate some two billion francs CFA (1 US dollar = 750 FCFA) to its national programme on HIV/AIDS, the Health ministry hinted Tuesday.
The ministry said although Benin was yet to announce its contribution to a UN global fund against the pandemic, it had at least at the national level laid out a plan to care for HIV- infected people.
Some 50 people are infected in Benin every day, and health authorities estimate that the infection rate currently at four percent could rise to 10 percent, possibily 20 percent, in 2025 if the scourge is not brought under control.
