Benin hosts symposium on African Diaspora next week

Cotonou- Benin (PANA) -- Some 150 participants from Africa, America, Europe and Asia are to take part in next week's international symposium in Benin focusing on the development of Africans in the diaspora, organisers said Saturday.
The five-day event begins Wednesday in Ouidah, a former slave centre near Cotonou.
Initiated by the Institute for Development of Endogenous Exchange (IDEE), it is to provide a framework for reflection and exchange of ideas on the contributions of the diaspora to Africa's development.
IDEE Director Honorat Aguessy stressed need to raise the awareness of decision-makers on the untapped potentials of Africans scattered around the world.
The meeting is expected to open a register of Africans in diaspora towards creating an efficient network.
Discussions would cover scientific, economic, financial, sports, cultural and religious topics.
