Benin: LDCs conference pays tribute to victims of Malaysian, Algerie air crashes

Cotonou, Benin (PANA) – The Least Developed Countries (LDC) ministerial conference under way in Benin has paid to the crash victims of the Malaysia Airlines and Air Algerie which claimed 298 and 118 lives respectively.

At the opening of the conference aimed at identifying new and innovative partnerships to support the efforts of LDCs for the enhancement of their productive capacities, which is the priority area of the Istanbul Programme of Actions (IPA), Benin President Yayi Boni asked participants to express their compassion for the families, loved ones and countries of the victims.

He expressed regret about the disasters and called on the participants to observe a minute's silence in their memory.

The conference is on the theme, "The New partnerships for the enhancement of productive capacities."

The meeting, which rounds up on Thursday, will also focus on adequate means of implementation, provide recommendations for measures which will build on development partnerships, taking into account the improvement of the contribution of public development aid and South-South cooperation.

Others are cash remittances by migrant workers, Foreign Direct Investment and other forms of traditional external financing, domestic resource mobilization, public-private partnership and control of domestic resources and other potentials.

It brings together, Ministers and experts from all LDCs as well as their development partners, representatives of the United Nations system, private sector, civil society groups and local and  international philanthropic organizations.
