Benin: China supports Benin’s fight against gender-based violence

Cotonou, Benin (PANA) – China has given Benin 20 million CFAF to help in its fight against gender-based violence.

The cheque for the money has been given to the Beninese ministry of Family, Social Affairs, National Solidarity, the Disabled and Elderly, sources at the ministry told PANA on Sunday in Cotonou. (US$1=CFAF 590.)

The Chinese aid for the ministry will help begin the sensitization of the population on gender-based violence through a project to promote women’s rights in four departments of the south and the centre of the country - Mono-Couffo (south-east) and Zou-Collines (centre) - through the strengthening of laws protecting women.

The programme aims to strengthen social development, social protection and solidarity, through the conception and increase of sensitization advertising campaigns, monitoring of sessions by the departmental directors, supervision of sessions by the ministry’s teams, signing of partnership with four local radios for achievement of its programmes.
