Benin: Benin observes day of mourning for Paris attacks victims

Cotonou, Benin (PANA) – Benin observed Monday as a day of national mourning in commemoration of the victims of Friday’s terror attacks in Paris, France, said a communiqué issued after the council of ministers held an extraordinary session.

According to the communiqué, the mourning day concerned not only the victims of the Paris attacks but also all victims of terror violence in the West African sub-region and the whole world.

Flags flew half-mast all across the country and a minute of silence was observed at 12h00 local time in memory of the victims.

"The Beninese government and people are affected and deeply shocked by the horrible terrorist attack that hit France," the government said in the communiqué.

Benin has condemned the attacks it described as "barbaric without precedent in the history of France" and expressed hope that the perpetrators of Friday’s carnage would be arrested and taken to court.
