Belgium: High level meeting on Somalia opens in Copenhagen

Brussels, Belgium (PANA) - An International High Level Partnership Forum on Somalia opened Thursday in Copenhagen, Denmark, to take stock of the progress made in terms of security and development in the war-ravaged Horn of Africa country since the last international donors' conference held in September 2013.

Jointly organised by the UN and the EU and saw the participation of President of Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud and members of the Federal Government of Somalia.

The European Union is represented at the meeting by Ms. Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and Neven Mimica, Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development.

A statement from the EU said that significant progress has been made in Somalia in recent months, despite political tensions.

The Copenhagen meeting is expected to give a renewed impetus to the post-transition process towards stability and security in the country.
