Belgium: EU releases 215 million euros for Ebola vaccines

Brussels, Belgium (PANA) – The European Union (EU) has raised 215 million euros to finance projects aiming at combating the Ebola epidemic, particularly for vaccines and quick tests essential to overcome the disease, official sources said.

Out of the amount, 104 million euros came from pharmaceutical industries and 111 million from the year 2020 research programme.

In a communiqué, obtained by PANA here on Saturday, the European Commission announced that parallel to the initiative, the ongoing project in Guinea will continue in a bid to monitor closely the evolution of the virus.

It said that the European Commission has, in collaboration with the pharmaceutical industries, adopted a programme for innovative drugs (EMI).
