Belgium: Belgian minister briefs Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea diplomats on efforts to contain Ebola

Brussels, Belgium (PANA) – Belgian Minister of Cooperation and Development Alexander De Croo on Wednesday received Sierra Leonean, Liberian and Guinean diplomats in his office in Brussels to brief them about the measures taken by Belgium to fight the deadly Ebola virus disease and said that a large part of his departmental budget would be devoted to the task.

According to an official communiqué, the minister said that the priority for Belgium is to reduce the number of cases of infection by the deadly virus and to look for means to strengthen the capacities of resilience for affected countries.

In another development, the Belgian minister underlined the need to maintain the flights of Brussels Airways to the three countries so that they are not cut off from the rest of the world.

He said that suspension of flights would greatly affect the assistance given to those countries, since every week, dozens of tonnes of food are delivered there by flights and for hundreds of health professionals travelling from Europe to West Africa, Brussels Airlines is the only carrier that still links West Africa to the rest of the world.
