Belgian soldiers to protect their compatriots in Ivory Coast

Brussels, Belgium (PANA) – Belgian commandos on Sunday left Belgium for Ivory Coast to prepare a possible intervention in that country to protect the Belgian embassy and nationals, a statement from the Belgian Defence ministry issued Monday in Brussels says.

Belgium asked its 400 nationals in Ivory Coast “not to move at night or at day” in Abidjan and inside the country because of the violent demonstrations that are held there.

Meanwhile, the Belgian airline, Brussels Airline, has cancelled all its flights bound for Abidjan, the economic capital of Ivory Coast.

The airline recently increased its flights to Abidjan from four to six every week.
