Bashir to visit war-torn Darfur region

Khartoum- Sudan (PANA) -- Authorities here Wednesday disclosed President Omar Hassan el-Bashir would pay a two-day visit to the war-ravished western Darfur region to assess security and humanitarian conditions.
While there, he is expected to address a mass rally in Neyala and inaugurate a number of new service establishments, including health centres and the Neyala Radio digital studio.
Bashir will also meet with the south Darfur region's Wali (Governor) and members of his government to discuss latest developments in the area.
Darfur has been the scene of intense fighting between Khartoum and its ally militias, and two rebel movements - Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) and Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) - who took up arms charging Khartoum with neglect for the region.
The UN estimates that around 120,000 people have fled across the border into Chad and about one million internally displaced as the result of the fighting.
