Bashir reinstates Sudan’s former chief spy

Khartoum, Sudan (PANA) - President Omar Bashir on Sunday reinstated his former chief spy, Salah Abdallah, aka Salah Gosh, to replace current head of the Sudanese National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS), Mohamed Attah. No reason was provided.

The official news agency of Sudan said President Bashir issued a presidential decree re-appointing Lt. Gen. Salah as NISS Director-General. It gave no reason about the changes.

Gosh was relieved of duty in 2009 and appointed as security adviser up to 2011 when he was again relieved from that post.

Since then the powerful security chief, who masterminded the rapprochement between Sudan and the US security bodies, went into oblivion only serving as Member of Parliament from his remote area in northern Sudan.

However, all along and in intermittent media appearances, he remained loyal to President Bashir and to the National Congress Party.
