Barrow appoints Gambia’s Truth, Reconciliation Commission boss

Banjul, Gambia (PANA) – Gambian President, Adama Barrow has named Dr. Baba Galleh Jallow as the Executive Secretary of the Truth Reconciliation and Reparations Commission, PANA confirmed Monday.

The president made the appointment after consultations with Gambia’s Minister of Justice, Abubacarr Tambadou, the Public Services Commission and the appointment took effect from 1 February 2018.

Reacting to the news of his appointment, Dr. Jallow remarked: “needless to say this is a very challenging and heavy responsibility to assume.”

“For that reason, I ask for everyone's kind support, understanding and prayers. I believe that together we can make this work the very best way possible. Thank you all and God bless The Gambia.”

Dr Baba Galleh holds a Ph. D degree in African History from the University of California at Davis in USA, a Master’s degree in Liberal Studies from Rutgers University, USA and a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science from the University of Sierra Leone.

Prior to his appointment, Dr Jallow served as Assistant Professor, Department of History at La Salle University in the United States of America.

Many Gambians remember him as an Editor-in-Chief of ‘The Daily Observer’ newspaper and a co-founder of the ‘Independent’ newspaper.
