BREAKING: Nigeria's President declares State of Emergency in 4 states over Boko Haram

Abuja, Nigeria (PANA) - Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan has declared a State of Emergency in four of the country's 36 states worst hit by attacks by the Islamic sect Boko Haram.

The states are Plateau, Niger, Yobe and Borno states, all in the predominantly-Muslim northern Nigeria.

The President announced the decision in a broadcast to the nation Saturday, six days after a total of 49 people were killed in coordinated attacks in four states by the sect.
