Maputo, Mozambique (PANA) - Director-General of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) Abdelaziz Khelef was due to arrive in Maputo Sunday for a visit to Mozambique.
During the visit, the Director-General will be received by the President and the Prime Minister, whom he will brief on the progress of BADEA’s programmes in Mozambique. He will also meet with other top government officials.
BADEA’s development assistance to Mozambique commenced in 1975.
The meetings will enable both BADEA and the Mozambican government to discuss the mutual cooperation between them, in order to assess the impact of the various programmes.
BADEA will, simultaneously with the visit, conduct the appraisal of Niassa Electrification Project, a major intervention that will benefit the province of Niassa and be financed by the Arab Group of Development Finance Institutions, including, in addition to BADEA, the Kuwait Fund for Development, the Saudi Fund for Development, OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and the Islamic Development Bank.
The technical and economic feasibility study of the project was funded by BADEA to the tune of US$400,000 and was finalised in February 2012.
The estimated cost of the project is US$56 million.
By the end of June 2012, BADEA’s total assistance to Mozambique stood at US$228.815 million.
