Aviation unions threaten to shut Nigeria's airspace Monday

Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) - Three aviation unions have threatened to shut the Nigerian airspace starting from Monday over the failure of the authorities to pay them higher wages.

The Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) served a notice of the impending shutdown Thursday.

They said, in a joint statement, that the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) had failed to address issues bordering on a new salary scale for the workers.

A 14-day ultimatum they had issued to NAMA on the pay issue expires on Monday.
