Archbishop of Dakar asks Senegalese to assist Ivorian people

Dakar, Senegal (PANA) - The Archbishop of Dakar and President of the Regional Episcopal Conference of West Africa (CERAO-RECOWA), Cardinal Theodore Adrien Sarr, has asked Senegalese to help Ivorians "who are experiencing great political turmoil".

In his Good Friday message, he said: "It is time to end the unrest in Cote d'Ivoire and to ensure that no more blood is shed in this country."

He advised African leaders to respect the results of the polls during elections.

The Archbishop of Dakar, on behalf of the Episcopal Conference, also urged the African Union and the European Union to seriously discuss the agreements on the right to interfere.

Sarr said: "African countries are independent and sovereign. These countries have been independent for 50 years but so far, it seems they are still under the yoke of colonialism."
