Bamako- Mali (PANA) -- The Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) has given Mali a US$13 million loan (about 7.
5 billion FCFA) to extend and equip the Kayes airport in the west of the country.
In an official statement issued here Tuesday, BADEA said the loan is refundable in 30 years with a grace period of 10 years and has a one percent interest rate.
Malian authorities have said the loan was important because with the completion of the project, Kayes would become a back-up airport for Bamako international airport.
The authorities said in addition to serving as an international airport for medium-distance aircraft, the Kayes facility will also help to open up the air space in the western part of the country.
