Anti-measles campaign underway in southern Mauritania

Nouakchott- Mauritania (PANA) -- A vaccination campaign against measles began Wednesday in Trarza region, 204 km south of Nouakchott on the Senegal River valley, according to the Mauritanian News Agency (AMI).
The campaign, which is due to last several days, "is part of action to eradicate measles, which is particularly fatal among children," AMI indicated.
It said the operation targets 124,000 children aged between 6 and 15.
"In addition to prophylactic action against the disease, doses of vitamin A will be administered to make up for the nutritional deficiencies," AMI added.
