Algeria joins Francophonie Organisation

Algiers- Algeria (PANA) -- Algeria is to join the International Francophonie Organisation (OIF), Foreign Minister Abdelaziz Belkhadem hinted Friday, on the sidelines of the Francophonie summit underway in Beirut, Lebanon.
President Abdelaziz Bouteflika is the first Algerian Head of State to take part in a summit of the organisation, as a guest of Lebanese President Emile Lahoud.
Belkhadem also said Algeria plans to join other forums such as the Commonwealth.
He said the OIF has changed a lot since the Bamako Summit in 2000 shifted the organisation's identification from that of a club of French-speaking countries to one grouping countries sharing a common political and cultural vision.
