Algiers, Algeria (PANA) - Algeria has bestowed one of its top honours on visiting FIFA President Sepp Blatter, according to African soccer's governing body CAF.
The award, Algeria's National Order of Merit, was bestowed on Mr. Blatter Monday by the country's Minister of Youth and Sports Hechemi Djiar, on behalf of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
The FIFA President expressed ''heartfelt thanks'' to President Bouteflika for the honour.
Mr. Blatter is currently on a three-day visit to North Africa, which started in Morocco where he arrived on Sunday.
The FIFA boss, who is accompanied by CAF President Issa Hayatou, among others, is due to participate in the activities marking the 50th independence anniversary of Algeria, as well as the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Algeria's football federation.
