Algeria: Algeria records 700 cases of AIDS per year

Tunis, Tunisia (PANA) - Algeria records 700 new cases of HIV/AIDS annually, bringing the number of people living with the virus to more than 22,000, PANA learnt from appropriate health sources on the occasion of the celebration of the World AIDS Day.

Algerian Minister of Health and Hospital Reform, Abdelmalek Boudiaf, seized the opportunity to stress the need to strengthen awareness campaigns for preventive protection and early detection measures.

In this regard, he said that Algeria was ready to host an African AIDS Centre pending the World Health Organization's decision on this issue before the end of this year.

On the World AIDS Day, several events were organized in different parts of the country to raise awareness on AIDS.
