Air Seychelles orders A320neo Airbus aircraft

Port-Louis, Mauritius (PANA) - Air Seychelles, the national airline of the Seychelles, on Tuesday announced its first order of the new generation A320neo (new engine option) aircraft as part of the plan to refresh its fleet and increase efficiency on its regional network.

The order was signed on Tuesday by Air Seychelles Chief Executive Officer, Remco Althuis and the Airbus Vice President (Sales), sub-Sahara Africa and Indian Ocean, Hadi Akoum .

A press release sent to PANA in Mauritius said the new addition will be entering the Air Seychelles fleet in the second half of 2019 and will enable the airline to increase the capacity on its Johannesburg and Mumbai routes while at the same time delivering significant fuel savings and reducing the airline's operating costs.

The aircraft will be equipped with new in-flight product reflecting the latest trends in air travel industry, offering guests greater level of comfort and an enhanced travel experience.

Seychelles Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine Didier Dogley said the aviation industry is becoming extremely competitive which is also reflected in the decision of Air Seychelles to invest in a fleet of new generation Airbus A320neo.

“Furthermore, the aircraft will elevate the product Air Seychelles offers across the region ensuring the airline continues to develop and grow sustainably,” he added.

According to him, as part of the strategic plan, this new order will not only enable the airline to gradually replace its existing fleet with modern aircraft, but it will also enable Air Seychelles to further strengthen its business by operating in a more efficient manner.

For his part, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer Eric Schulz said the fuel efficient aircraft will provide the airline with "unbeatable efficiency, lowest operating costs and a significantly reduced environmental footprint".

Air Seychelles was established in 1978 and began long-haul service in 1983. The airline currently offers international flights to Abu Dhabi, Antananarivo, Johannesburg, Port-Louis, Mumbai and Paris.
