Air Burkina suspends flights to Mali following ECOWAS sanctions

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) - Burkina Faso's national carrier, Air Burkina, announced on Monday that it has suspended flights to Mali, in conformity with sanctions imposed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) against the Malian transitional regime.

"Following the closure of the borders of ECOWAS countries with Mali, Air Burkina is suspending its flights to and from Mali until further notice," a statement said.

ECOWAS leaders who met in Accra on Sunday imposed stiff sanctions on Mali following the junta's decision to flout a transition timetable to hold elections at the end of next month.

The sanctions included the closure of land and air borders between ECOWAS countries and Mali and suspension of all trade transactions, except for essential consumer products.
