Abidjan- Cote d'Ivoire (PANA) -- The Observatory for the total unity and integration of Africa (OUITA) has congratulated Amara Essy on his election as OAU Secretary General, hoping that he would "turn the prestige acquired by Cote d'Ivoire into an asset".
African leaders Tuesday elected Essy in Lusaka, succeeding Salim Ahmed Salim of Tanzania.
According to a statement issued by its vice-president, Asse Alafe on Friday, OUITA's role is to "support" decisions taken by African leaders in the interest of their peoples on the continent.
The Observatory is meant to be a credible body which "will publish reports assessing progress of the African Union.
OUITA, which was formed last month in London, will be flrmally launched in Paris next month.
