African gendarmerie authorities meet in Dakar

Dakar- Senegal (PANA) -- Gendarmerie heads from Africa and France Monday began a two-day international symposium in Dakar, Senegal on the maintenance of order while respecting public liberties.
About 20 countries are represented at the meeting, which is aimed at "fostering an exchange of views on methods and means of maintaining," Lt.
Meissa Niang of the organising committee said.
He said the forum also aims at "laying the foundation for better cooperation among gendarmerie authorities across Africa.
" Niag noted that the meeting was holding at a time when organised crime was gaining ground on the continent, saying it would provide participants occasion to exchange valuable information on crime control.
