Adada discusses deployment of UNAMID with Netherlands Minister

El Fasher- Sudan (PANA) -- The United Nations (UN)-African Union (AU) Joint Speci al Representative (JSR) for Darfur, Mr.
Rodolphe Adada, has expressed his apprec i ation to the Netherlands government for its political, financial and material su p port to the joint UN-AU Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).
Mr.
Adada made the declaration Wednesday in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, whil e receiving the Netherlands Minister of Development Cooperation, Mr.
Bert Koende r s, who is on a four-day visit to Sudan.
The JSR and UNAMID Force Commander, General Martin Luther Agwai of Nigeria, brie fed the Dutch delegation on the deployment of UNAMID, and reiterated the appeal b y the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon to international partners to honour their pledges and provide helicopters for the Darfur peace-keeping mission.
The lack of helicopters and other heavy transport equipment, and delays in troop deployment have made it more difficult for the 9,000 peace-keepers on the grou nd to effectively implement the UNAMID mandate, the JSR added.
In response, the Dutch Minister, who was accompanied by senior officials from hi s ministry, said he was hopeful that UNAMID would be able to fully deploy expedi t iously, so that the mission can provide the much-needed support to the Darfur pe a ce process.
