Activist denounces use of tea said to cure AIDS in Madagascar

Port Louis, Mauritius (PANA) - The president of the Network of People living with HIV in the Indian Ocean (Ravanne Plus), Nicolas Ritter, has questioned the effectiveness of JMAR, a type of tea sold in Madagascar and supposedly said to cure AIDS.

"We have friends who have died because of this drug. Let us stop this scam as soon as possible," he said. "We are asking people living with HIV to be very vigilant."

Mr. Ritter said in Port Louis, Mauritius, that doctors from Reunion told him that AIDS patients who had taken this notorious medicine arrived in hospital filled with opportunistic infections.

"This drug is jeopardizing the lives of people and I am shocked that the Malagasy authorities have not yet taken action against this crook," Mr Ritter said.
