About 30kg of cocaine seized in power plant west of Tripoli

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - About 30 kg of cocaine was seized during an inspection inside a power plant in Khoms, about 120 km west of Tripoli, the Libyan Interior Ministry of the Government of National Unity  (GNU) announced on Thursday.

The ministry said in a statement that members of the branch of the General Directorate of Electricity Protection in the city of Khoms, during an inspection of the power plant, found a quantity of cocaine hidden in a suitcase behind the walls of the plant, estimated at about 30 kilograms.

The statement added that the drug has been handed over to the criminal investigation department of the Khoms security directorate.

Libya has since the 17 February 2011 revolution that ousted former leader Muammar Gaddafi become a fertile ground for drug trafficking because of the collapse of security and state bodies.
