About 27,000 HIV-positive children identified in Rwanda in 2007

Kigali- Rwanda (PANA) -- At least 27,000 children infected by HIV/AIDS, most of whom are orphans of the pandemic, were identified in Rwanda in 2007, the Director-General of the Rwandan Research and HIV Treatment Centre, Anitha Asiimwe, said on Friday.
The prevalence rate in Rwanda, whose population stands at nine million inhabitants, is estimated at 3.
5 per cent, according to official statistics released in the 2007 report on Rwanda on the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The report said about 39 per cent of the population used the condom as a contraceptive and HIV/AIDS control method.
