Abidjan to host ECOWAS finance ministers meeting

Cotonou, Benin (PANA) - The seventh meeting of the Ministers of Finance of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and Mauritania will be held next Saturday in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, according to an official statement.

The meeting is expected to examine and approve the various community legislations relating to the implementation of the ECOWAS Common External Tariff (CET) and tax harmonisation.

These include the draft regulation amending the list of categories of goods contained in the tariff and statistical nomenclature of the ECOWAS Common External Tariff, the draft Directive establishing regional guidelines on the code of ethics for tax administrations of ECOWAS Member States,.

Also under consideration will be the draft Directive harmonising the methodology for evaluating tax expenditures in ECOWAS Member States, the draft Directive establishing an institutional mechanism for monitoring and evaluating tax transition in West Africa.

As a prelude to the meeting, a technical meeting of the ECOWAS-West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) Joint Committee for the management of the ECOWAS Customs Union will be held from 21 to 23 November 2022.
