According to the AUC media outlet, Mahamat congratulated Mr Rivo Rakotovao on this appointment, and wishes him every success in his new duties.

He paid tribute to ex-President Rajaonarimampianina for his qualities as a statesman and for the high sense of responsibility he has shown in respecting the Malagasy Constitution, thus stopping his country from a major political crisis.

He also congratulated the High Constitutional Court of Madagascar for its professionalism, as well as for the positive and constructive role it has played in the regulation of the political and institutional life of the country.

Mahamat urged all Malagasy parties to demonstrate the commitment and the spirit of responsibility as required by the electoral consultation for the election of the President of the Republic in accordance with the Constitution and laws in force, as well as the electoral calendar as decided by the competent institutions.

In this context, he underlined the historical importance for the Malagasy nation of this electoral event, which must be able to put a definitive end to the many episodes of political instability and institutional precariousness experienced by the country.

The AUC Chief paid tribute to the AU High Representative, Minister Ramtane Lamamra, for the tireless efforts he made in his mediation action, which allowed for the reconciliation of the positions of the Malagasy parties with a view to the meeting of the conditions of a free and regular electoral process.

He ceased the opportunity to appeal to the international community as a whole to continue and intensify his support to Madagascar for the organization and holding of a free presidential election, credible and peaceful, so that it constitutes a significant step forward in the democratic governance of the country as a condition for its economic and social development.
