AU welcomes Japan's role in peace consolidation

Addis Ababa- Ethiopia (PANA) -- The Commission of the African Union (AU) Thursday welcomed Japan's peace consolidation initiative for Africa, saying the continental body was committed to building strong partnership that backs Africa's own efforts.
Addressing at a two-day international conference on peace consolidation in Africa that opened here Thursday, AU Commissioner for Peace and Security, Said Djinnit said the commitment of the AU and its leadership to peace and security on the continent remained unwavering.
"We are committed to building a strong partnership that recognises the African ownership and initiative and that aims at supporting Africa's own efforts.
"It is in that spirit that we welcome this initiative by the Government of Japan," Djinnit assured.
The conference on peace consolidation in Africa is being held under the auspices of Japan, the United Nations, the World Bank, the UN Development Programme and the Global Coalition for Africa.
