AU urges Ivorian New Forces to rejoin government

Addis Ababa- Ethiopia (PANA) -- African Union (AU) Commission's chairperson Alpha Oumar Konaré said here Tuesday the decision by Cote d'Ivoire's New Forces to withdraw its ministers from the cabinet might compromise the peace process in the troubled West African country.
Calling upon all Ivorian parties to renew dialogue and respect the letter and spirit of the Linas Marcoussis Agreement, Konaré urgent the former rebels to take back their place in the government of national reconciliation.
He emphasised that the national reconciliation was the appropriate body to resolve issues and disputes related to the implementation of the peace process in Cote d'Ivoire.
Konaré reiterated the AU support to the Linas-Marcoussis deal, which, he said, "afforded a real opportunity to resolve the serious problems facing Cote d'Ivoire and promote lasting reconciliation among the Ivorians.
