AU summit on information, communication opens

Addis Ababa- Ethiopia (PANA) -- African leaders Sunday opened a summit here devot ed to the development of information and communication technology, seen as cruci a l in powering future economic growth, and speeding up integration on the contine n t.
Several African leaders, including incument African Union (AU) chairman Libyan l eader Mouamar Kadhafi, and key international guests, are attending the three-day summit.
At the start of the summit, the leaders observed a minute's silence in memory of the victims of a recent Ethiopian Airlines' crash and Haitians killed in an ea r thquake which hit the carribbean island two and half weeks ago.
Ninety people, including crew and passengers, died in the airline crash, while a n estimated 150, 000 are believed to have been killed in the quake in Haiti.
