AU head seeks Gabon's role in Burundi peace process

Libreville- Gabon (PANA) -- The African Union (AU) commission's interim chair Amara Essy on Thursday in Libreville sought Gabon's involvement in the application of the cease-fire agreement signed by the Burundi government and three of the four Hutu rebel movements.
According to sources close to the presidency in Libreville, Amara Essy, who had an audience with President Omar Bongo, has requested Gabon to contribute troops to the AU peacekeeping force of about 2,000-3,000 men and officers.
On 8 February, Gabon had agreed in principle to send its troops to the AU's observer mission, expected to be deployed in Burundi soon.
The second main Hutu rebel group, National Liberation Front, has so far refused to enter negotiations with Major Pierre Buyoya's government.
